Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Mathew Barney, the artist “who broke Björk’s heart” is now suing the Icelandic singer for custody of their 12-year old daughter, according to Page Six. “Their daughter, Isadora, wants to spend a balanced amount of time with each parent,” the gossip rag claims. “But Björk, who splits her time between Reykjavik and Brooklyn Heights — and whose eccentricities have included sewing pearls into her skin and wearing a swan costume to the 2001 Oscars — is demanding a larger and larger share of the kid’s time, the dad complains.”

Are they seriously going to use the “mom is weird” strategy in family court? Maybe they’ll strip the swan dress from Björk’s current MoMA exhibition and present it as evidence? But really, if we’re going to get down to it, Dad is pretty freaknasty himself — Barney’s most famous work is named after a testicular muscle, and his latest project featured quite a bit of fecal matter, if memory serves.

Barney, in court documents, allegedly claims that his former wife  “is effectively sacrificing Doa’s emotional well-being in favor of her own selfish desires,” later adding that her “self-focused mindset … flows, in part, from her belief that as Doa’s mother, she has far greater rights than I do as Doa’s father; and, in part, from her insistence that I am solely to blame for the breakdown of our relationship and the end of our intact family.”

Oh boy. In short, this is going to get ugly. If any of Björk’s lawyers are reading this, let us suggest a defense: Matthew Barney was a football jock at Yale. That has to work against him, right?
